About the Author
I don’t recall
exactly when I took an interest in cooking.
As the youngest of eight children, my mother
and older siblings always took care of the
cooking. However, even as a young child, I
loved having people over for dinner and
family get-togethers. As I grew older, I
realized that food was the focal point of
such great events so I started to cook.
When my daughter, Lori, was born, I began
thinking about my relationship with my
mother. She was a great cook, but I never
asked for her recipes. When she passed away,
her recipes were lost forever. To this day,
I have regretted that those dishes will
never be remade. That was when I decided to
start writing my favorite recipes down so I
could pass them down to Lori.
My daughter, in the meantime, has turned
into a vegetarian. I can’t believe it, but
it’s true! In her defense, she has made some
good dishes and shared her recipes with me.
We have actually made a few original
vegetarian recipes together which are
included in the book.
Over the years, many people have asked for
my recipes and suggested I compile them all
into one book. In 1992, I took their advice
and self-published my first cookbook, Now
You’re Cook’n.
My new cookbook, In Good Taste, is a
compilation of wonderful new recipes along
with many of my original recipes. In this
new book, the reader will find the recipes
are fast, easy, and practical, with most of
the ingredients already in their pantry.
Also, my intent was to make the book
attractive to young people who are just
starting to cook as well as to newlyweds and
young men and women who are away from home,
living on their own for the first time. Some
of my most meaningful testimonials are from
young adults.
I am thankful for a supportive husband of 30
years, who has allowed me to pursue my
interest in writing this book, taking
cooking classes and attending
demonstrations.
I have given credit to the individuals, when
possible, who have shared their recipes with
me and thank them all for helping make my
cookbook come to life. I am excited to share
my new book with everyone who loves to cook.
I hope you find this book inviting and
inspiring, not intimidating and that you
will have a desire to create your own Family
History Cookbook. I promise you, as time
goes on, this book will become a legacy for
your family and a history to hand down for
future generations. -Nancy J. Miles
